Impressionist painter Claude Monet (French, 1840–1926), eternally fascinated by color, light, and atmosphere, found expression for these elements in his gardens as well as on his canvases. The master gardener, horticulturist, and colorist spent decades creating a tapestry of hues and textures in the flowers and foliage that surrounded his Giverny home—a living laboratory for him to study the ever-changing natural world. Author and photographer Elizabeth Murray helped to restore Monet’s estate in the 1980s; she returns each year to capture the seasonal changes of the gardens. This calendar showcases twelve of her photographs, each accompanied by a concise description.
