Bulanda & Mucha - Architects 1991-2011
“Transparency of the passing and recorded time is the most relevant element in the vitality of a city and its riches”. In that and many other statements expressed by the Bulanda & Mucha Architects studio, the notion of transparency of passing time catches the reader’s attention as the overriding goal of design, a gauge of an intention’s value and of its creative execution. The record of this passing time is the diverse texture of the city – the colour schemes, interplay of light and shadow, the layout of streets, the property grid, the cubature and composition of urban interior space along with their architectural costume and statement, and the presence of noteworthy or not-so-noteworthy structures. And it is precisely the transparency that makes the context understandable – context as understood by the creators and practitioners of many of its successful applications. According to Andrzej Bulanda and Włodzimierz Mucha, urban context is something more than, and perhaps even something utterly different from, the sum of the adjacent frontages in which the newly-erected building must view itself in accordance to the Warsaw or Gdańsk formula, safely reduced to the common denominator and often banal.
